Mats Hummels appears to be on his way to Real Sociedad, with multiple reports claiming that the transfer is on the verge of going through.

After months of speculation, Mats Hummels has seemingly finally found his new club. According to Fabrizio Romano, Real Sociedad are closing in on the signing of the veteran centre-back. Reports in Spain claim that Hummels will join Real Sociedad on an initial one year contract with the option to extend for an additional 12 months.

Hummels had also been linked with moves to Brighton & Hove Albion and Bologna, but has apparently decided to make the switch to La Liga. The 35 year old has been a free agent since leaving Borussia Dortmund when his contract expired at the end of last season.

Real Sociedad will be competing in the UEFA Europa League this season, which will give Hummels the opportunity to play European football. They have started their La Liga campaign with one win and one defeat.

Hummels is coming off an excellent year with Borussia Dortmund. The defender rolled back the years and played a key role as the Black and Yellows made it all the way to the UEFA Champions League final. However, his contract was not extended and he became a free agent at the end of last season.

Mats Hummels left Borussia Dortmund as the club's second highest appearance maker of all time, having made 508 appearances for the club.
