Could Mats Hummels be set for a move to Spain?
By Tushar Bahl
After leaving Borussia Dortmund at the end of last season, Mats Hummels could be set for a move to Spain with two clubs in the race for his signature.
The future of Mats Hummels remains uncertain, with the veteran centre-back still considering his options. Hummels has been a free agent since leaving Borussia Dortmund after his contract expired at the end of last season. And reports in Germany are now linking him with a move to Spain.
Contrasting claims on Mats Hummels' future
According to Sky Sport, RCD Mallorca are leading the race for the signature of Hummels. The 35 year old is also attracting interest from Brighton & Hove Albion and Real Sociedad, and the report adds that he wants to make a decision on his future in the coming week.
Meanwhile, a report from BILD claims that a transfer to RCD Mallorca is not an option for Hummels. And instead, Real Sociedad are interested in signing the former Germany international. A move to the Basque country would also allow Hummels to play in the UEFA Europa League this season.
Hummels has already rejected offers from Italy. Bologna were earlier said to be leading the race for his signature, while Bayer Leverkusen were also linked with a move for him.
It will be interesting to see where Mats Hummels ends up playing next season. The defender certainly showed last season that he is more than capable of playing at the top level. And he will hope to pick up right where he left off once his next club gets confirmed.
