Gio Reyna faces another spell on the sidelines after suffering a setback in his bid to come back from the groin injury he suffered last month.

Injuries continue to haunt Gio Reyna, who has had to spend signifcant time on the sidelines over the last few years. The USMNT star appeared to be closing in on his return to action, having picked up a groin injury while on international duty last month. But he has now suffered a setback in his bid to return to full fitness.

Another injury blow for Gio Reyna and Borussia Dortmund

Nuri Sahin revealed during Friday's press conference that Reyna is set for an extended spell on the sidelines after this latest setback. In addition to Reyna, Borussia Dortmund will also be without Karim Adeyemi and Julien Duranville in the coming weeks. "We expect Julien and Karim to be available again after the international break in November. Gio, unfortunately, has had a setback, it looks similar for him," the BVB head coach said.

Gio Reyna has made just one cameo appearance off the bench so far this season. He also struggled for playing time last season, both at Borussia Dortmund and during his loan spell at Nottingham Forest. The 21 year old has made a total of 122 appearances for BVB so far, and has 17 goals and 17 assists to his name.

BVB sporting director Sebastian Kehl backed Reyna to become an important player for the club this season during an interview in August. And the hope at the club will be that the attacking midfielder can return to action soon.
