Gregor Kobel believes that Borussia Dortmund delivered a solid performance against Eintracht Frankfurt in their Bundesliga opener, but also sees some room for improvement.

Borussia Dortmund began their Bundesliga campaign with a 2-0 win over Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday. A second-half brace from Jamie Gittens secured the three points for BVB in a hard-fought contest.

The Black and Yellows dominated possession and created the better chances overall, with Gregor Kobel hardly having any saves to make. But Eintracht Frankfurt also missed a golden opportunity to score when the scores were level.

"There are some things that we need to work on" - Gregor Kobel on BVB win

For Kobel, there were plenty of positives to take from Borussia Dortmund's performance on the opening matchday of the Bundesliga season. But the Switzerland international also feels that they have some things to work on.

"It took us the first 30 minutes to get into the game. Things didn't go smoothly, we lost the ball too often. But we became more dominant towards the end of the first-half. In the second 45 minutes, we were dominant for long stretches," Kobel said. "It wasn't a top performance yet, but it was a good first performance. There were a lot of good things that we can build on, but also some things that we need to work on. We have to make quicker decisions and also defend better, like before the 1-0 for us when Frankfurt had a great chance."

Borussia Dortmund have started the Nuri Sahin era with two straight wins. And while the performances have not reached the desired level just yet, there are plenty of encouraging signs.

Next up for BVB is a trip to the Weserstadion to take on Werder Bremen. That will be followed by the international break, which will give Sahin more time to work with his players and prepare for the challenges to come.
