Jamie Gittens earned rave reviews after coming off the bench and scoring a match-winning brace for Borussia Dortmund against Club Brugge on Wednesday.

Much like the opening matchday of the Bundesliga season, Jamie Gittens came off the bench and rescued Borussia Dortmund in their Champions League opener. With the scores level, the talented winger's directness and ability to take players on made the difference as he scored a crucial brace before Serhou Guirassy added a third.

"Dream of mine" - Jamie Gittens on winning the Champions League man of the match award

Gittens said after the game that winning a man of the match award in the UEFA Champions League is a dream come true. "It is a dream of mine to win this trophy. I have been watching this great competition since I was a kid. I am so happy to win this one right here," Gittens told UEFA after the game.

Borussia Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl was delighted with Gittens' impact, and said that the Englishman is impossible to defend against when he gets into the box. "The coach made the right substitutions. That was the deciding factor. Jamie would have liked to have played from the start. But his reaction was that of a champion: We expect the guys who come in to change the game. When he's in the penalty area, he's almost impossible to defend against."

Pascal Groß also hailed his teammate's impact and ability to take players on. "Jamie did a great job, two great individual moves. He's incredibly strong one-on-one. He already won us the game against Frankfurt with similar actions."

Gittens now has four goals to his name in just five appearances for Borussia Dortmund this season. The 20 year old continues to show his talent on the big stage, and it will be very exciting to see how he develops in the coming months and years.
