Borussia Dortmund striker Maximilian Beier has commented on his recent rise, having established himself as one of the most exciting young players in the Bundesliga over the last 12 months.
Maximilian Beier enjoyed a stunning breakthrough year with Hoffenheim last season, and his 16 goals and three assists helped him earn a place in the Germany squad for Euro 2024. Borussia Dortmund then came calling, and signed the 21 year old for a fee of 30 million euros amid competition from the likes of Bayer Leverkusen, Chelsea, and Aston Villa.
"I’m very happy with how things have turned out" - Maximilian Beier on his rapid rise
It has been quite the rise for Beier, who is regarded as one of the best finishers in the Bundesliga and is capable of playing in a variety of different roles in attack. Later this month, the young forward will make his UEFA Champions League debut. But before that, he reflected on his impressive rise in an interview with the Bundesliga.
"It’s crazy. Last year I was playing in the second division, then at Hoffenheim. I had a good season there, then the national team, and now here. I’d like it to continue like this. I’m very happy with how things have turned out. I don’t really know what to say right now," Beier commented.
Asked about the surreal experience of playing in front of the Yellow Wall at the Westfalenstadion, Beier said, "It was fun. I was a bit nervous at the beginning because seeing 81,000 fans and the Yellow Wall is pretty intense. But once I got on the pitch I knew what I had to do and everything was clear to me."
Maximilian Beier has yet to open his goalscoring account for Borussia Dortmund in three appearances. But he will have his sights set on finding the back of the net after the international break. And fans will also get to see the exciting strike partnership between Beier and fellow summer signing Serhou Guirassy blossom in the coming weeks.
