After leaving Borussia Dortmund upon the expiration of his contract, Mateu Morey has completed his return to boyhood club RCD Mallorca on a 12 month contract.

Mateu Morey has completed his move to RCD Mallorca on a free transfer, putting pen to paper on an initial one year contract (with the option to extend) with the Spanish side. The right-back returns to La Liga, five years after leaving FC Barcelona for Borussia Dortmund.

Morey made a total of 32 appearances for the Borussia Dortmund first-team over the course of five years with the club. He enjoyed an encouraging start to life in Germany, but suffered a serious knee injury in May 2021 and was forced to spend significant time on the sidelines after that.

After enduring three years of excruciating injury struggles and hard work, Morey finally made long-awaited his return to Bundesliga action in February. It was decided earlier this year that his expiring contract with Borussia Dortmund would not be extended. Now the 24 year old is back at his hometown club, where he will hope to steer clear of injuries and get his career back on track.

Born in Majorca, Mateu Morey began his career at RCD Mallorca before joining the FC Barcelona academy. He showcased his immense potential in Spain, and that prompted Borussia Dortmund to sign him in 2019. Injuries have preventing him from realising his potential so far, and the hope will be that he can finally manage to get an extended period of time on the pitch in the coming months.
