Mats Hummels: I will decide my future after the end of the season
Mats Hummels has revealed that he will only make a final decision on his future at the end of the current campaign.
The current contract of Mats Hummels is set to expire at the end of the season, and reports have claimed in recent weeks that the veteran centre-back is contemplating retirement as he wants to end his career while playing at the top level. The 35 year old was asked about his plans beyond the end of the season following Borussia Dortmund's 2-0 win over Bayern Munich on Saturday, and said that he has not yet made a final decision on his future.
"I have the desire to continue playing but it just hurts a lot and you have to see how long it lasts. Nothing has been decided in any direction. I think I'll really only decide after the end of the season," Hummels said (via Sky Sport).
Hummels has shown his timeless defensive qualities on a number of ocassions this season, and has been called upon by Edin Terzic, especially for the big games. The 35 year old stepped up once again for Borussia Dortmund on Saturday, as he put in one of the best defensive performances of the season so far to blunt the Bayern attack.
Mats Hummels, who made his return to Borussia Dortmund from Bayern Munich in 2019, has made a total of 498 appearances for the club across two spells.
