Pascal Groß: Borussia Dortmund's draw against Werder Bremen not a disaster
By Tushar Bahl
Pascal Groß does not see Borussia Dortmund's draw against Werder Bremen as a disaster, but has admitted the need for improvement.
Borussia Dortmund played out a goalless draw against Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga on Saturday. The Black and Yellows struggled to carve out chances and had to play the last 20 minutes with ten men following Nico Schlotterbeck's sending off.
With all that in mind, Pascal Groß does not think that the draw is a catastrophic result for BVB. Nonetheless, the veteran midfielder sees a few areas where there is some room for improvement.
"We want to win every game. But you always have to look at the result with context. When we play the last twenty minutes outnumbered, we'll take the draw."
"We found it difficult to create clear goalscoring opportunities. So overall, we have to improve in that respect. But we have also kept two clean-sheets. I think it's an exaggeration to say that 0-0 is a huge setback. We've picked up four points from two games. That's not a disaster. It's matchday 2, not everything is great yet, that's clear," Groß said on Sky Sport after the game.
Groß, who joined Borussia Dortmund from Brighton & Hove Albion in the summer, has cemented himself as a regular starter in the team. The versatile midfielder already has three assists to his name, and will have a crucial role to play in BVB's chance creation in the coming months.
The 33 year old will be away with the Germany national team for the next two weeks after being called up by Julian Nagelsmann for their upcoming UEFA Nations League matches against Hungary and the Netherlands.
As for Borussia Dortmund, the international break will serve as an opportunity for Nuri Sahin to get his players more used to the style of play he wants to implement.
