Borussia Dortmund are interested in signing Jeff Chabot, with the defender expected to be available for a cut-price fee in the event of FC Köln's relegation.

Signing a new centre-back could be high on Borussia Dortmund's list of priorities for the summer transfer window, with the future of Mats Hummels still uncertain. BILD are now claiming that the Black and Yellows want to reinforce their defence with the signing of Jeff Chabot from FC Köln.

According to the the tabloid, talks between BVB sporting director Sebastian Kehl and Chabot's representatives are already at an advanced stage.

Clubs from the English Premier League are also said to be interested in signing the 26 year old, who would be available for a cut-price fee of around five million euros if FC Köln are relegated from the Bundesliga this season. If the Billy Goats manage to avoid relegation, Borussia Dortmund would have to pay around ten million euros to sign Chabot.

Despite Köln's troubles, Chabot has earned plenty of praise for his performances this season. The centre-back is known for his tough tackling approach and tenacity, and has the attributes of an old-school defender.

Jeff Chabot joined FC Köln on an initial loan deal in 2022 and has become a regular starter for them this season. He has made a total of 55 appearances for Köln, with 28 coming this season.

Borussia Dortmund's plans at centre-back will likely depend on whether or not Mats Hummels decides to continue his playing career beyond the end of the season. It has also been reported in recent weeks that highly rated U-19s centre-back Filippo Mané could be promoted to the first-team next season.
