After impressing on loan at Holstein Kiel last season, Tom Rothe is determined to showcase his talent and seize the opportunity at Borussia Dortmund.

Tom Rothe looks set for a role in the Borussia Dortmund first-team this season, with those in charge seemingly deciding against signing a new left-back. The towering 19 year old is rated very highly at BVB, and is coming off an excellent loan spell with Holstein Kiel.

Rothe's four goals and ten assists from left wing-back were crucial as Kiel clinched promotion to the Bundesliga last season. While Kiel would like to sign him on another loan deal (Union Berlin are also said to be interested), Borussia Dortmund have no plans to let the Germany youth international depart. And Rothe has now had his say on his plans for the coming months.

"I know that Dortmund is a different ball game compared to Kiel. But that was exactly the point of the loan: to gain a year of match practice and then attack here again. Now I want to step on the gas in pre-season and show the new coach who I am and what I can do. And then we'll see what happens," Rothe said in an interview with Borussia Dortmund's official website.

With Borussia Dortmund missing out on the signature of Ian Maatsen, Rothe will likely compete with Ramy Bensebaini for a spot in the starting XI in the coming campaign. The Algerian international endured a diffiicult debut season at BVB, but his experience could see him get the nod in the starting XI.

But if Borussia Dortmund do indeed decide against signing a new left-back this summer, Tom Rothe should get his fair share of opportunities in the first-team in the coming months.
