Werder Bremen vs Borussia Dortmund: Bundesliga Team News, Preview
By Tushar Bahl
Borussia Dortmund will hope to make it two wins in two in the Bundesliga as they make the trip to Nuri Sahin's former club Werder Bremen this weekend.
After seeing off the challenge of Eintracht Frankfurt on matchday one, Borussia Dortmund are set for a potentially tricky test in the Bundesliga this weekend. Over the years, matchday two in the Bundesliga has proven to be a roadblock for BVB. And Nuri Sahin will be keen to change that as he returns to the Weserstadion, where he spent two years as a player.
Sahin has implemented several big changes since being appointed Borussia Dortmund head coach in the summer, with one of them being the use of three centre-backs in the back four. That is expected to continue on Saturday, with Nico Schlotterbeck in line to play at left-back.
Yan Couto will miss the trip to Bremen with a minor injury, while Serhou Guirassy remains sidelined. The rest of the squad should be available for selection, although we could see some changes to the front-line.
Jamie Gittens and Maximilian Beier could both be in contention to play from the start on Saturday. The former scored a match-winning brace off the bench on matchday one.
Werder Bremen began their Bundesliga campaign with a topsy-turvy 2-2 draw against FC Augsburg. Ole Werner will hope for a similarly strong attacking performance from his side this weekend.
Former Borussia Dortmund forward Justin Njinmah will hope for a spot in the starting XI after coming off the bench and scoring the equaliser against Augsburg. Fellow former BVB youngster Amos Pieper is sidelined with an injury.
