His transfer being the solution for the possible departure of Gregor Kobel is more likely. The Swiss goalkeeper is repeatedly rumored to leave Dortmund this summer as top Premier League clubs have interest. As one of the highest earners at the club, a transfer away from the Ruhr Valley would greatly benefit Dortmund's finances. Transfermarkt values the player at €40 million and he earns €9 million per season. A difficult financial period ahead could lead to the sale of Kobel, with the much cheaper Ramaj being his replacement. Ramaj earned a relatively low €420,000 per year at Ajax, which would have made him one of the lowest earners at Dortmund.

Since his loan move to Copenhagen, Ramaj has been the undisputed number one. Some characteristics of his that stand out are his long range passing ability and skill with both feet. According to statistics website Fotmob, Ramaj averaged over nine accurate long balls per game last season- over four more per match than Kobel in the current campaign. The former Ajax man could prove to be an improvement over Kobel with the ball at his feet.

The signing of Ramaj brings up some interesting links to former BVB technical director Sven Mislintat. Ramaj was signed only days before Mislintat’s sacking and might have been the last signing the former technical director had his hand in. This is actually the second time Mislintat has brought the German goalkeeper to his club. His transfer to Ajax was orchestrated by the club's football director at the time: Sven Mislintat.

As a German, Ramaj is obviously eligible for the German national team. He also has the eligbility to play for either the Kosovo or Albanian national team. It remains to be seen which country Ramaj will play for, but he seems to be holding out for a chance with the German national team.
