Ramy Bensebaini was pleased to finally end the wait for his maiden goal for Borussia Dortmund as he found the back of the net against St. Pauli on Friday.
Borussia Dortmund claimed a 2-1 win over FC St. Pauli on Friday evening with goals from Ramy Bensebaini and Serhou Guirassy securing the three points. It was a hard-fought win for the Black and Yellows against a St. Pauli side that defended deep and kept things tight. But late goals in both halves ensured that BVB maintained their perfect record at home this season.
Ramy Bensebaini ends wait for first Borussia Dortmund goal
For Bensebaini, his goal on Friday was really special as it was his first time finding the back of the net for Borussia Dortmund. The left-back, who joined BVB on a free transfer from Borussia Mönchengladbach last year, got on the end of a cross from Pascal Groß and scored with a powerful header from 14 yards out.
After the game, Bensebaini reflected on his goal and said that he had been really waiting for it for a while. "We all know that Pascal [Groß] has really, really good crosses and passes. I was in the box. I was waiting for the ball. I got it with the head and scored my first goal. I was really waiting for this goal. I'm happy to score."
Ramy Bensebaini endured a difficult debut season with Borussia Dortmund, but has made a rather solid start to his sophomore campaign. The Algerian international, who was also on target for his national team this week, put in another impressive overall performance on Friday.
In addition to his goal, Bensebaini also made a crucial last-ditch challenge to prevent St. Pauli from scoring. The 29 year old will now hope to build on this performance and continue his strong run of form in the coming weeks.
