Borussia Dortmund pull the curtains down upon a successful Bundesliga season tomorrow away to Werder Bremen on the final matchday of the 2025-26 season.
Niko Kovac's side have already achieved the runners-up spot and with that, a place in next season's Champions League too as BVB celebrate their highest league finish since 2023.
As for Werder Bremen, the minnows are assured of safety as they remain six points ahead of the relegation playoff spot, currently occupied by Wolfsburg.
The River Islanders will be hoping to give their fans something to celebrate on the final matchday, on their home turf, but it's easier said than done.
Dortmund could achieve highest points in seven years
Currently on 70 points, Borussia Dortmund could add three more and finish with 73 - the most they would have achieved in a single top-flight campaign since the 2018-19 season when they finished second with 76.
It's also worth noting that 73 points would have secured them the league title in 2023-24 season, when the BVB famously slipped up on the final day and allowed Bayern to sneak away the Meisterschale.
Brandt bids farewell in hometown
Julian Brandt is set to play his last game for Borussia Dortmund tonight and it comes in the city where he was born. It couldn't have been more poetic than that.
The German international is a Bremen native, but never really played for the club. Not even for their youth side. He began his career with another Bremen side Borgfeld, whom he joined at five in 2001.
After continuing his development at FC Oberneuland and Wolfsburg, Brandt finally made his senior debut with Bayer Leverkusen in 2014. Five years later, he joined the BVB.
Dortmund's commanding record in the fixture
Borussia Dortmund have had their fare share of issues against Werder Bremen but their head-to-head record in recent times has been encouraging.
The BVB are unbeaten to the River Islanders in their last six clashes, winning four. Speaking of just their away record in the fixture, then Dortmund are unbeaten in Bremen in five and haven't lost a Bundesliga game there since December 2014 as their last defeat there was in the 2020 DFB Pokal clash.
Earlier this season, Niko Kovac's side comfortably cruised past Bremen with a 3-0 home win, with Nico Schlotterbeck, Marcel Sabitzer and Serhiu Guirassy all netting apiece.
Another win this weekend could mark just their second league double in the fixture in three years.
