Borussia Dortmund's perfect start to the 2026-27 Bundesliga season will be tested against a bogey VfB Stuttgart team that has managed to ruffle their feathers quite often in recent clashes.
In fact, not that long ago, Die Roten were on a five-game wining streak against the BVB, who consistently dropped points against them and were even knocked out from the DFB-Pokal once.
However, the reading is starkly different for both teams right now. While Die Borussen are one of only two teams to have won all three Bundesliga games, Stuttgart are hovering precariously above the relegation zone after just one win.
Here's the catch though, in both their matches at the MHPArena this season, the Reds have emerged victoious, beating FC Koln 4-1 in the league before a 3-1 defeat of Viking in the Champions League.
As Dortmund and Stuttgart renew hostilities tomorrow, here are three things to watch:
1) Goals galore?
Borussia Dortmund and Stuttgart have contested the highest scoring fixture in Bundesliga history with 381 goals between them - 193 for BVB and 188 for Die Roten. Naturally, the expectation here is that we could see plenty of goalmouth action.
Even their recent meetings hasn't been short of drama. In fact, the rivals are averaging almost four goals from just their last five official clashes alone, while also producing six-goal thrillers on three occasions (3-3, 5-1 and 3-3) from their last eight clashes.
2) Guirassy returns to his old stomping ground
Since making the switch from Stuttgart to Dortmund, Serhou Guirassy has played at the MHPArena, his old stomping ground, twice and scored once, in the humiliating 5-1 loss just months following his departure.
With four goals in the new campaign already, the Guinean ace is off to a good start again and will be relishing the prospect of facing his former team at his former ground once more. Waldemar Anton is another ex-Stuttgart player returning to Baden-Württemberg tomorrow.
3) A litmus test of BVB's title credentials
Although Stuttgart are languishing near the relegation zone, their pristine home record - just two losses since the start of last season - mean they could likely be a challenge for the in-form Dortmund, who have struggled with lapses in control and ceded possession ineptly.
In perhaps all three league matches this season, the rival teams have managed to put BVB under the cosh with fast-paced attacking plays and quick passing. Had it not been for some poor finishing, especially by Hamburger and Paderborn, their league stats would have looked differently.
