Rejoice, BVB fans! The stars are back to grind as the club is set to begin pre-season this week.
After a gap of almost two months, most of the squad will be resuming training ahead of their first friendly match to Rot-Weiß Oberhausen on 18 July.
Borussia Dortmund shared glimpses from their gym on the club's official Instagram handle with the caption:
""Guess who just got back today, them wild-eyed boys that had been away.""they wrote
The carousel starts with a picture of Jobe Bellingham followed by talismanic goalkeeper Serhou Guirassy. Fabio Silva, Yan Couto and skipper Emre Can are featured as well, as the stars were all smiles on their first day back at the club.
Back-up goalkeeper Alexander Meyer, who didn't make a single appearance for the club last term, has also returned and is expected to take his place between the sticks for much of their pre-season as first-choice custodian Gregor Kobel, whose Switzerland team marched all the way to the World Cup quarter-finals, may not return for another month.
All the 10 Dortmund players active at the 2026 FIFA World Cup were conspicuous by their absence as the World Cup contingent will be given an extended time out before recalling them back but the biggest absentee was Karim Adeyemi.
The club had confirmed only hours earlier that they have granted the German international the permission to skip training and indulge in talks with other clubs as Adeyemi is nearing a move to Barcelona, who have already reached a verbal agreement with him.
Although a deal hasn't been struck yet and the move may well fall apart for unforseen reasons, the Catalans are understood to be in the advances stages of their negotiations with the player as his asking price so far has been a stumbling block in finalizing a deal.
This will also be the first season without talismanic playmaker Julian Brandt, who departed the club after seven years on a free transfer with Niklas Sule and Salih Ozcan also leaving as Dortmund is undergoing squad changes this summer.
Germany's Nico Schlotterbeck has already been ruled out for the first few weeks of their 2026-27 season with a ligament tear in his left knee that he sustained during their second group fixture against Ivory Coast. Borussia Dortmund expect him to return by the end of September, which obviously means Schlotterbeck will be sidelined from the entirety of their pre-season.
