The United States have announced their 26-man squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup as the side prepares to co-host the tournament alongside Mexico and Canada next month.

Ranked 16th in the world, the Stars and Stripes welcome the competition back on home turf for the first time since 1994, the only previous occasion they hosted the prestigious event.

The US, who secured automatic qualification for the World Cup, were drawn alongside Paraguay, Australia and Turkey in Group D.

Mauricio Pochettino's side are among the dark horses at the cup as they shoulder big expectations of reaching far into the tournament and making a real impact.

The Argentine has now called-up a highly talented side that is packed to the rafters with enviable names.

BVB starlet misses out

Borussia Dortmund have a young American on their books in Mathis Albert. The midfielder wrote his name in the Bundesliga records for becoming the youngest US player to ever debut in the competition at 16 years and 340 days old in April this year, surpassing the previous record set by another ex-BVB star, Giovanni Reyna.

But Albert remained uncapped in international football, never having received a senior call-up by Pochettino before. So it's no surprise to see that he's been left out of USMNT's official squad for the World Cup.

Qualified sides rarely bring players who have never previously made an appearance. Although there's an exception this time with Chris Brady, who is the only uncapped player in the squad, he's still only a goalkeeper.

Among the outfield players, all except one (Auston Trusty) have played at least 10 times for the US national team as Pochettino isn't taking any risks. Uncapped players also carry a semblance of uncertainty with them, as that lack of experience can hamper a side's chances at the tournament proper.

Former BVB stars make the cut

There might be no Borussia Dortmund contingent in the USMNT World Cup squad, but former stars Christian Pulisic and Giovanni Reyna make the cut.

With 32 goals from 84 caps, Pulisic is the chief marksman leading his side out as the AC Milan talisman hopes to carry his side beyond the group stages.

Reyna endured a difficult year at Borussia Monchengladbach after joining from Die Borussen as injuries hampered his first-team chances. But that hasn't stopped him from being called-up.

The 23-year-old has 36 caps for the USMNT while scoring nine goals.
