Borussia Dortmund star Waldemar Anton feels his team were better at the MHPArena on Saturday as compared to their last visit to the stadium in April.
The Prussians extended their winning start in the Bundesliga to four games with a narrow 1-0 win over VfB Stuttgart on Saturday as Maximilian Beier struck the only goal of the match.
It was their second consecutive win away to Die Roten, who had also lost 2-0 on home turf against the BVB back in April too.
Anton, who played in both the matches, drew a contrast between how the side fared on their last visit to Stuttgart to their performance here.
Speaking to the press after the game, he said:
"If you compare today’s game to our game here last season, we played with a lot more control, were much better going forward, and allowed very little defensively. "
Back in April, Dortmund were struggling to break down a well-drilled Stuttgart and were seemingly headed for a draw, until Karim Adeyemi broke the deadlock in the 80th minute.
Julian Brandt then consolidated the three points for the visitors with a second goal in the sixth-minute of stoppage-time.
On Saturday too, Die Borussen were goalless until the 70th minute as Die Roten proved handful once again with their directness and urgency.
However, some excellent saves from goalkeeper Gregor Kobel kept them from going in front. The BVB then made them pay for their complacency with Jobe Bellingham teeing up Beier for the winner.
Just moments earlier, Karetsas has whisked an excellent chance narrowly wide off target, while in the 80th minute, substitute Fabio Silva also blazed a shot high and wide from a counter.
Anton further added:
"Of course, you expect Stuttgart to make a late push at their own stadium. We allowed one or two headers during that phase, but nothing dramatic, and we could have sealed the deal at the end."
With another victory added under their belt, Dortmund have 12 points from a possible 12 in the Bundesliga, a first for the club since 2015-16 season and also extended their winning run in all competitions to six games.
Anton feels Dortmund have earned it through a 'composed' style of play, adding that everyone is reveling in their rich vein of form right now.
"We’re enjoying this moment. We’ve earned it. We played some really good and composed football."
Dortmund next play Werder Bremen on 9 October.
