Borussia Dortmund star Julian Ryerson has hailed his team for their splendid comeback against AS Roma on Saturday in their final pre-season game of the summer.

Much to everyone's surprise, the BVB had fallen 2-0 behind in the game after just 10 minutes into the kick-off courtesy of goals from Paulo Dybala and Bryan Cristante.

However, the hosts of the match fought their way back into the tie with two goals in a space of 16 minutes through Ryerson himself and one from Serhou Guirassy.

The Norwegian, who returned to action for Dortmund with a bang, opened up on the response they gave, saying the side remained optimistic even after the early deficit.

"It didn’t feel good to be down 0–2 so early. But the great thing is that we fought back and tied it up at 2–2 in the first half. We tried to stay positive and play forward. We managed that pretty well."

Just three minutes after falling 2-0 behind, Ryerson, making his first appearance for the BVB this preseason, pulled one back to reduce the deficit.

Following some lovely team move with Konstantinos Karetsas heavily involved, the right-back came in with a chance after Daniel Svensson squared it to him.

He then took a touch before slamming it home beyond goalkeeper Mile Svilar as the come back was on.

In the 28th minute, Dortmund were the beneficiaries of a free-kick from a good position on the left, which Ryerson stepped up to take.

He spotted Guirassy at the head of the line and after a feign from Karetsas, delivered it straight to the Guinean inside the box who then made a simple finish from close range.

In less than 20 minutes, Roma's lead was wiped out and Dortmund were right back in it, now in cruise control of the proceedings too.

Although the game's pace reduced after the break, the BVB had the best chances of the match but were unable to bury them as the game ended all square at 2-2.

Dortmund play Bayern on Saturday

With that, the preseason was over and Borussia Dortmund now turn towards the daunting fixture against Bayern Munich in the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup on Saturday, 22 August.

In what's their first appearance in the single-legged cup clash since 2021, the BVB have a chance to end their five-year trophy drought.

But it will be interesting to see how their defense, which has been found wanting on numerous occasions during the preseason, cops with Bayern's mighty frontline led by the peerless Harry Kane.
