The 2026 FIFA World Cup just wrapped up it's exhilarating group stage fixtures. From big wins to some shock upsets, this round had it all.

In fact, a total of 215 goals were scored across 72 matches in a new record. It also averaged three goals per game, which is also a new milestone in the tournament's history.

France, Germany and the Netherlands were the highest scoring teams with 10 goals each, while Lionel Messi emerged as the most prolific goalscorer of the round after netting six times for defending champions Argentina.

Interestingly, 144 players from 47 of the 48 teams participating at the World Cup, found the back of the net in the group stages with Panama being the only side that drew a blank in all three group fixtures.

But, how many of Borussia Dortmund players scored? Of the nine outfield BVB players at the competition (not counting Switzerland's Gregor Kobel as he's a goalkeeper), only three players got on target.

Here's a complete breakdown of each of the three goals scored by Dortmund players in the group stages of the 2026 FIFA World Cup:

Felix Nmecha (Germany) vs Curacao (Group E, 14 June)

It was truly delightful to see that Germany's first goal of the 2026 FIFA World Cup was scored by a Borussia Dortmund player. And by rising star Felix Nmecha, no less. Despite his lack of experience on the international stage, Julian Naglesmann gave him a chance and the midfielder repaid it handsomely. He then went on to bag an assist in their next game against Ivory Coast.

Nico Schlotterbeck (Germany) vs Curacao (Group E, 14 June)

Just minutes after Nmecha's strike, Nico Schlotterbeck also got on target for Germany. Interestingly, it was his first international goal too, leaping the highest to connect with an incoming corner and head it in. Considering that he was coming off the back of a five-goal campaign in the Bundesliga, the most by a defender in the league's 2025-26 season, this was poetic. But unfortunately, Schlotterbeck sustained a World Cup-ending injury early into their game against Ivory Coast on 20 June and will be sidelined for several months now.

Marcel Sabitzer (Austria) vs Algeria (Group J, 28 June)

It took a good two weeks to see a Dortmund player get on target again as Marcel Sabitzer ended the goal-drought for the BVB contingent on Sunday with a fabulous strike from almost 25 yards out in Austria's pulsating 3-3 stalemate with Algeria. He will be hoping to bag more in the knockout stages against European champions, Spain.
