Konstantinos Karetsas is all the rage right now. Less than a week since he was unveiled as Borussia Dortmund's latest signing, the 18-year-old made his club debut against Premier League champions Arsenal and announced himself to the fans with a fabulous strike inside 29 minutes that had them raving about him.
Officially the club's second most expensive purchase behind Ousmane Dembele at €30 million, Karetsas snubbed interest from a few top guns around Europe, including the Premier League, to join the BVB in a highly anticipated move following his meteoric rise to prominence with KRC Genk last season.
Becoming Karetsas
Born in November 2007, Karetsas is a native of Genk city in Belgium where he also started his footballing career at a meager age of seven after joining the club's youth academy in 2015.
Five years later, he moved on with another local giant Anderlecht and in 2023, made his professional debut with Jong Genk where he also became the youngest ever scorer in the Belgian Pro League.
With 20 appearances under his belt, the midfielder was promoted to Genk's senior team where he honed his skills further while emerging as a key player in the squad.
Last season, Karetsas made a big statement with 11 assists in the Belgian Pro League coupled with another five in the Europa League, where he also struck twice.
Breaking into Greece national team
Though he was born in Belgium, Konstantinos Karetsas opted to represent Greece as his parents were from the Balkan nation and switched allegiance in 2025 after having represented the Red Devils in his youth career.
He made his international debut against Scotland in March 2025 as the sides clashed in a UEFA Nations League promotion/relegation playoffs before scoring against them in their next meeting a few days later.
Only 17 years and 124 days at the time, Karetsas became the youngest scorer in Greece national team's history as well as in the UEFA Nations League. He was also a part of their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, scoring against the Tartan Army once again in November last year.
Karetsas' playing style
Konstantinos Karetsas has drawn parallels with Bayern Munich playmaker Jamal Musiala for his close control, ability to drift in and out of tight spaces and strong hold-up on the ball. However, it's his exquisite passing ability that truly makes him special, capable of splitting open a defense with one silky lay-off.
