Borussia Dortmund’s Aubameyang Move to Real Madrid Ruled Out
By John Harbeck
Reports out of Bild have Read Madrid and manager Zinedine Zidane backing out in the race to sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
The fact of the matter is Borussia Dortmund can’t hang on to their top players once they transform into bonafide stars. We have to enjoy a player for what he is, while he still remains with the club.
This news that Real Madrid is backing out of the Aubameyang sweepstakes is reportedly due to the manager not quite liking the striker’s playing style. I think it has more to do with Aubameyang’s age and Real Madrid wanting more than just two or three top years from this kind of investment.

With that said, BVB fans have to be ecstatic to take one club out of the running and perhaps it could mean that Aubameyang might just hang on. The same report has Paris St-Germain still willing to shell out the kind of money that it would take (80 million +) this summer to capture Aubameyang.
With the move projected to come this summer, it is still quite a way off from becoming a reality. That means there is plenty of time to haggle over the price tag, but you’ll notice 80 million dollars would be one of the highest transfer fees of all time.
Of course, Paul Pogba is the highest of all time to this point, but beyond that, only Gareth Bale, Cristiano Ronaldo, Luiz Suarez, and Gonzalo Higuain would have gathered a higher price than Aubameyang’s rumored 80 million dollars.
Keeping those figures in mind, losing Aubameyang for the sixth-highest transfer fee of all time wouldn’t hurt nearly as badly. Yes, he is a supremely talented player, but getting him out of Germany (ie not to Bayern Munich) and getting a haul to not only directly replace him, but improve other areas of the squad would be a good consolation.
So for now, we know that Real Madrid is talking as if they are out of the bidding, be it real or a negotiating tactic. PSG is still in the running and now seem to be the logical ending destination for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
