With the massive win over second place RB Leipzig in the books, let’s see what Borussia Dortmund manager Thomas Tuchel and company have to say about it.

We will start with manager Tuchel who as always played the role of reality man in saying this about the Borussia Dortmund performance:

"We performed brilliantly for 90 minutes. We won 1-0 but it should’ve been 4-0. We put in a superb display, showed great energy, defended at a really high level and our switch-play was outstanding. Obviously we didn’t manage to put the game beyond Leipzig’s reach but at the same time we didn’t allow them a single shot on goal during the second period. It was a highly deserved win that leaves us feeling fantastic."

Clearly, you can see in his statement that he is pleased with how the match went, but there is a little dose of reality mixed in.  1-0 over RB Leipzig is a wonderful victory, but not the kind of victory that is should have been.  Borussia Dortmund had the opportunity on numerous occasions to really put the match away and didn’t capitalize.  That isn’t to take away from the weight of the win, Tuchel just always seems to give a balanced coach’s take on things.

When asked about Marco Reus, Tuchel had this to say and is plans going forward:

"Not much. He needs to rest and recuperate. Then he’ll be among the goals again when we play Hertha on Wednesday."

I’m not sure what the reporter was hoping for by asking the question, probably just joking around. Clearly, Reus is a major component of the squad that it is safe to say had a terrible off day.

To balance it out, here is Reus on the match:

"“We won this match, that’s all that counts. And we are absolutely delighted with the victory. Of course, anything can happen when the score is 1-0. If I had managed to put away one of the three chances in attack, then we wouldn’t still be speaking about Leipzig’s offside goal at the end. Fortunately, things turned out well for us. Overall I think that we put in a good performance. It was a real battle out there and we were ready for the fight.”"

I like how Reus owned up to his mistakes, but ultimately was very enthusiastic about the club’s victory.  That is a sign of a true team player who is engaged with his club and the fans.  The notable example of the opposite of this comes in the form of Cristiano Ronaldo.  He would most certainly be pouting post match if he didn’t get his goals with some clear cut opportunities even if the team won.

Finally, we have surprise inclusion, Erik Durm:

"“We kept our emotions in check well, but the tactics we employed worked fantastically too. We built on that and we were businesslike in how we saw the game through. We played brilliant football, had some very good counter-attacks and really dealt well with everything. We gave our all and deserved to win.”"

Workmanlike is a good way to describe the weekly performance of Durm as he is always capable of putting in a good shift.  I wonder how much the versatile defender/midfielder will be used in the big matches going forward.
