In the final match coverage article for the RB Leipzig victory, each Borussia Dortmund player gets a rating.  See how your favorite performed below.

GK: Roman Burki: 6.5

It is difficult for a goal keeper to rate very highly when he just sees one shot on goal.  That one shot Burki was able to save for Borussia Dortmund and his passing was solid as well.

LB: Marcel Schmelzer: 6

With most of the match played centrally, Schmelzer also didn’t have much to do.  Defensively his responsibilities were limited and he just didn’t have much of an impact going forward.

CB: Marc Bartra: 7

I was pleasantly surprised with how well Bartra was able to play.  His passing wasn’t always as sharp as should be expected out of the ball playing central defender, but he more than made up for it with a very solid defensive effort with five won aerial duels and 10 interceptions and tackles.

More from BVB Buzz

CB: Sokratis: 7

Led the team in passing percentage and was always up for a physical confrontation.  Best of all Sokratis didn’t try those frustrating long creative type of balls.

RB: Lukasz Piszczek: 6

Much like Schmelzer due to the nature of the match, Piszczek just didn’t have much to do.  His passing was fine, but only that and defending was largely not needed.

DM: Julian Weigl: 7

I predicted pre-match that Weigl would be a major key in the match and he turned out to be that.  While none of his stats jump off the page, he met the physical challenge that RB Leipzig presented him and fought very hard.

RM: Erik Durm: 6.5

A surprise inclusion in the starting eleven, Durm put in a very solid shift.  Durm was asked to be a very physical presence and provide a disciplined approach to the match.  He did all of those things well, but contributed almost nothing offensively bumping his score down a half point.

LM: Marco Reus: 5

Reus was often set up as a second forward and he often found himself in a position to score.  In each of those occasions, he failed to either set up a goal or score himself.  If the late goal would have counted, the Reus struggles would have been a major storyline.

AM: Raphael Guerreiro: 5.5

I almost forgot Guerreiro was in the match.  In a very crowded midfield, Guerreiro failed to make much of an impression at all.  Despite playing high up the field he registered zero shots or key passes.

Next: What does Omer Toprak bring to Borussia Dortmund lineup?

AM: Ousmane Dembele: 7.5

Look, you are never going to rate Dembele on passing percentage, number of touches or defensive work.  It is almost a totally different grading scale.  That grading scale is measured on highlights, goals, assists and pure creative power.  The lone goal was entirely Dembele’s game breaking work. It is amazing that a 19-year-old can make grown men look so foolish on a weekly basis.

ST: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang: 7.5

Perhaps should have had two more goals, but gets credit for having his forehead have the ball run into it and go into the net.  Dembele’s cross was so good Aubameyang didn’t really need to do much, but outside of that he was dangerous all match lacking the finishing touch on multiple occasions.

Subs:

Christian Pulisic

Matthias Ginter

Felix Passlack

All substituted played well and filled their role.  Pulisic stood out with many dangerous runs and picked up right where Dembele left off when he went off with a muscle injury.
