After being linked to a number of other clubs, Borussia Dortmund’s chief scout will stay with the Black and Yellows

Borussia Dortmund’s chief scout Sven Mislintat has been the subject of great speculation recently. Just days ago German outlet Kicker reported that FC Bayern’s new sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic was interested in bringing the veteran scout to the Bavarian club.

Sven is a very well-respected individual in the Dortmund camp. He is responsible for bringing in talents like Robert Lewandowski and current star Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. Recently, he has also been integral to the purchases of youth talents like Ousmane Dembele and Christian Pulisic.

This isn’t the first time Mislintat has made headlines in close memory.

Feud: Mislintat vs Tuchel

More from BVB Buzz

Last October there was a rift between Dortmund’s former manager and the chief scout. After the deal for FC Porto midfielder Oliver Torres failed to materialize, the two men had a falling out. The feud got so bad that Tuchel had even banned Mislintat from the training grounds.

The simple fact of the matter is that Mislintat has been with the club for years. He also enjoys being close friends with Michael Zorc. If Zorc and Watzke were to get rid of anyone in this feud, it would be Tuchel, who Watzke was already tired of. This led to his sacking just days after delivering Borussia Dortmund’s first major title since 2012.

Shortly after the feud erupted, the Dortmund scout was rumored to both Hamburg and Hoffenheim. The 44-year-old still continues to work for Der BVB.

Zorc opens up on the matter

To the average person, this just seems like Bayern poaching German talent once again. However, with a new sporting director in place after Michael Reschke left for Stuttgart, there might be a few more personnel changes in Munich. The first of these looked to be Sven Mislintat, but now a move seems unlikely.

It was always a long shot trying to pry Mislintat away from Dortmund. Sven has been with Der BVB since 2009. Sporting director Michael Zorc feels very strongly about keeping the experienced scout at the club.

Going further into the matter, his is quoted as saying:

“We have a clear agreement with Sven Mislintat and only a few months ago [that deal was extended] until 2021 I do not feel like talking about it in any transfer period.”

It would seem that everyone in the Dortmund hierarchy is on the same page. Zorc goes even further to say:

“I am a little bit irritated about the action of FC Bayern Munich, but the topic is also done.”

With two possible transfers that could unfold (Dembele and Mor) in the coming days, the sporting director has a lot on his plate right now. This news about one of Dortmund’s biggest behind-the-scenes men only adds to troubles brewing in the club. For this reason, Zorc has put the rumors to rest.

Next: Possible Dembele Replacements

I think we can all be glad that Mislintat is on board at Dortmund, and not moving south to Munich. Hopefully in the future he will bring in more talents to don the yellow and black armor of Dortmund.
