Match Preview: Borussia Dortmund look to maintain perfect start
By Alex Orillac
Borussia Dortmund are back in action tomorrow as they take on SC Freiburg at the Schwarzwald-Stadion.
It will be interesting to see what team coach Peter Bosz decides to go with after the international break. His intense pressing tactics were fairly successful in the first two games. On the other hand, Streich’s Freiburg have endured a rough start to the season, earning 1 point from 2 games.
Form Guide
The two teams go into the game with contrasting starts to the season. While Dortmund have hit the ground running with two wins in two games, Freiburg are yet to taste victory this season. They come into this game having been thrashed by RB Leipzig in their last game.
Die Schwarzgelben have scored five goals without reply so far this season. Meanwhile their opponents have only scored one goal and conceded four in their first two games. Der BVB are currently sitting on top of the table, 5 points ahead of Freiburg, who are currently lying in the 15th place.
Dortmund have won the last 12 fixtures between the two sides, with Freiburg’s last win coming in 2010, when they won 3-1. Overall the two teams have played each other 34 times. Dortmund have won 23 of those fixtures, with Freiburg having just 3 wins against their illustrious opponents.
Possible lineups:
Freiburg 3-4-3
Schwolow – Lienhart, Schuster (c), Söyüncü – Strenzel, Abrashi, Frantz, Günter – Haberer, Kleindienst, Niederlechner
Freiburg boss Christian Streich confirmed that Çağlar Söyüncü will start in defense in the absence of Manuel Gulde, Marc Oliver Kempf and Georg Niedermeier. After shipping in four goals in their last match, Streich will be vary of Dortmund’s attacking prowess.
Another change could be the return of Amir Abrashi. The Albanian played in 21 games last season and will surely replace the suspended Hofler. On the attacking front Haberer is expected to return to the left wing to replace a lackluster Terrazzino.
With Nils Peterson (hip) out, Florian Niederlechner is expected to start up front for Freiburg.
Dortmund 4-3-3
Burki – Piszczek, Bartra, Sokratis, Zagadou – Sahin (c), Castro, Gotze – Philipp, Aubameyang, Pulisic
Dortmund have enjoyed the perfect start to the season. They have been playing solid football and have beaten Wolfsburg 3-0 and Hertha 2-0 so far. There is no reason to believe that Peter Bosz will make wholesale changes to his side this weekend.
New signing Andrey Yarmolenko could make his debut from the bench. While Maximilian Philipp is likely to start against his former club.

In defense, Sokratis should be fit despite being subbed off against Hertha Berlin. Tolijan will be aiming to make his first start of the season, but Dan-Axel Zagadou’s terrific start to the season might mean that he will have to wait. Dortmund’s midfield trio has impressed in the first two games of the season. And Peter Bosz will be tempted to go with the same trio once again. However Shinji Kagawa or Mahmoud Dahoud could come into the side if Bosz decides to keep Gotze fresh for the Tottenham game.
Their forwards have been performing well so far. And once again Aubameyang is set to lead the line for the club as he aims to win his second successive Golden Boot this season.
Final Prediction
SC Freiburg 0-3 Borussia Dortmund
Freiburg will face the unenviable task of trying to prevent Borussia Dortmund from scoring this weekend. The hosts will be planning to park the bus and hit the away side on the counter attack. But der BVB have enough strength to break through and get the three points comfortably and maintain their 100% record in the Bundesliga this season.
