Borussia Dortmund continued their fine start to the season as they beat Hamburg 3-0 in their Bundesliga tie.

Dortmund dispatched Hamburg by a final score of 3-0 to hold on to their place at the top of the Bundesliga table. Der BVB also continued their perfect defensive start to the campaign, keeping a clean sheet for the 5th match in a row. Yellow Wall.

Dortmund took the lead in the 24th minute thanks to Shinji Kagawa, who was able to lift a loose ball in the 6 yard box over Hamburg keeper Mathenia and into the roof of the net. The scramble came off of a Yarmolenko free-kick that Toprak headed towards goal.

Andriy Yarmolenko was a handful for Hamburg to deal with while he was on the pitch. Sakai went into the book after a rather reckless challenge from behind on Yarmolenko in the 31st minute. Yarmolenko sent in a few very dangerous crosses in the first half, one of which was headed just off of the post by Aubameyang.

Second Half

The Ukrainian continued his fine form in the second half. He set up Aubameyang for Dortmund’s second goal in the 63rd minute. Yarmolenko’s shot from the right side of the goal ended up being deflected and falling on a silver platter for Aubameyang to finish from close range. The best goal scorers always have a little bit of luck! Right place, right time.

Another story-line in this match was that the contest featured two Americans in the starting lineups. Bobby Wood was held rather quiet all match by the staunch Dortmund defense, as Sokratis and Toprak had another stellar outing. Christian Pulisic on the other hand made quite a bit of noise.

He scored the third goal with a beautiful shot from the right side of the goal, across the keeper, and off of the far post, bouncing in. It turned out to be Borussia Dortmund’s 3000th goal in the Bundesliga. Substitute Mo Dahoud got the assist for Pulisic’s goal.

Maximilian Philipp and Dahoud replaced Kagawa and Andriy Yarmolenko in the 66th minute. While Peter Bosz’ third and final change saw Jacob Bruun Larsen come on for Dan-Axel Zagadou in the 84th minute. Julian Weigl did not end up getting any action today, as his minutes are being monitored.

Overall it was a good win in a tough fixture for Peter Bosz’ men. Dortmund weren’t as menacing today as they have shown so far this season. But they played another very solid match and got three crucial points. Look for Der BVB to keep the momentum going as they square up with Borussia Mönchengladbach on Saturday.
