Borussia Dortmund cruised to a 3-0 win over Hamburg last night to continue their fantastic start to the Bundesliga.

Shinji Kagawa, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Christian Pulisic all scored to ensure that Dortmund stayed on top of the Bundesliga table. The defense all did their part by keeping their fifth consecutive clean sheet in the league this season.

You can read the match report here on BVB Buzz. Here are the player ratings for Borussia Dortmund players from their fine win last night.

Starting XI

Roman Burki: 7

Dortmund’s number 1 was in fine form against Hamburg, stopping everything that came his way. From crosses to shots, Burki dealt with everything HSV had to throw. Worked hard for his fully deserved fifth league clean sheet in a row.

Lukasz Piszczek: 7

The Poland international had a good game for Dortmund on the right side of defense. Piszczek missed a glorious chance in the first half, but grew as the game wore on. Was solid defensively and a threat going forward. It was one of his best performances of what has been a tough start to the season for Piszczek.

Sokratis Papastathopoulos: 6

Another assured performance from Dortmund’s wall at the back. Won every one of his aerial duels against an aggressive Hamburg side. Did not give their forwards even a sniff of a chance.

Omer Toprak: 8

A superb performance by Toprak. The Turkish international has been one of the most consistent players for Der BVB this season. Picked up the assist for Kagawa’s goal, although he could have scored himself had Kagawa not gotten in the way of his header. Defensively, he was a rock at the back. Stopped Bobby Wood from getting the shot away when he was clean through on goal in the first half. Proving to be a great signing.

Dan-Axel Zagadou: 6

He may be a centre-back but he is proving his worth at full-back so far this season. Another solid performance by the 18-year old. Won every one of his tackles and looked sharp when going forward. Signing him for free might turn out to be the steal of the summer for Dortmund.

Gonzalo Castro: 6

Had a solid game in the middle of the park. Has been error prone in recent games. But just like the rest of the team, Castro enjoyed a good game against Hamburg.

Nuri Sahin: 6

Another good performance by Sahin to continue his fine start to the season. Improved as the game wore on and made some good passes to feed the forwards.

Shinji Kagawa: 7

Showed his awareness by opening the scoring in the 24th minute. Kagawa enjoyed his best game of the season so far. Some of his play was reminiscent of his first spell with the club. Did well in the absence of Gotze before he had to be subbed off in the 66th minute with muscular problems.

Andriy Yarmolenko: 8

The Ukranian international turned on the style against Hamburg. His pace and trickery made him impossible to deal with for the Hamburg defense. Their answer was to foul him whenever they could. His superb cross led to the first goal, before he assisted the second for Aubameyang. Should have scored himself but a man of the match performance nonetheless by Yarmolenko.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang: 7

Hit the post in the first half and had a handful of chances before he scored a tap in after the break. Aubameyang is in a fine run of form and Dortmund fans will be hoping that he can lead them to glory this season.

Christian Pulisic: 7

He celebrated his 19th birthday a couple of days ago and he celebrated scoring the third goal for Dortmund last night. Another player who got better as the match wore on. Linked up well with his teammates and deserved his goal.

Substitutes

Mahmoud Dahoud: 7

Set up Pulisic’s goal and played well after coming on for Shinji Kagawa in the 66th minute. A star for the future, Dahoud is already reminding Dortmund fans of Ilkay Gundogan with his performances.

Maximilian Philipp: 6

Came on to replace Yarmolenko in the 66th minute and failed to replicate his performance against Cologne at the weekend. However, he can be forgiven for not being at his best since the game was already won and Dortmund were in cruise control by then.

Jacob Bruun Larsen: N/A

The game was already won so Peter Bosz decided to give Larsen a taste of Bundesliga action. He replaced Zagadou for the final six minutes.
