5. VAR must be used all over Europe

Lastly, one of the most debatable topics in football right now, the VAR and it’s use in football. Borussia Dortmund’s games over the month of September were a fine advert in favor of it’s use. The video assistant referee or VAR was deployed in the German Bundesliga at the start of the season.

And in the two months of football so far, it has proved to be largely effective. Borussia Dortmund saw many decisions rightly get reversed in their favor in the month of September thanks to VAR. While in the UEFA Champions League, a competition which does not use the technology, Dortmund were let down by some poor refereeing decisions in both their games.

Both decisions came at crucial moments and could ultimately end up costing Dortmund a place in the Champions League knock-outs. And both decisions could have been easily corrected using the VAR technology.

If UEFA or anyone else needs any convincing over the use of the video assistant referee, they should just watch Dortmund’s seven games over the month of September. There is no doubt that they will be in favor of VAR after that.
