5. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

Aubameyang has been extremely successful at Dortmund. Yet, this is another case of this season not being fruitful to a player who thrived under Thomas Tuchel. Having gone goalless for Borussia Dortmund in recent matches, he has become near invisible on the pitch.

He legitimately ran into Yarmolenko during Der Klassiker preventing a scoring opportunity. Aubameyang is out of form and needs to find the spark that makes him a great player. He has great teammates to assist him, but he needs to be the dangerous striker he was previously. Despite his woes, the Gabon international has scored eleven times this season. He just needs that one goal to get him in form once again.

4. Maximilian Philipp

Philipp’s playing time has gone down recently. It’s hard to understand why, as he was looking to be a wonderful replacement for the injured Marco Reus. Converting 5 goals in the Bundesliga, Philipp has been playing well when called upon.

As always, there will be room for improvement as there is for any player. He will need to work on his passing and finishing his chances. With the consistent rotation built into the squad, Philipp will have more chances. Philipp is turning heads and proving to be a valuable player for BVB.

3. Shinji Kagawa

The Japanese international attacking midfielder is one of Dortmund’s best purchases in recent years. Before leaving BVB and since returning to the team, Kagawa has been pivotal in the midfield. When playing, he can be one of the more creative players on the team.

Kagawa combined with Weigl and Gotze, or even Dahoud could prove to be a dangerous trio in the midfield. Kagawa is showing good form, great decision-making and creating chances for BVB. He has featured on the team, yet it could be argued he deserves more playing time.
