Borussia Dortmund injury update: A list of every BVB player on the sidelines
Łukasz Piszczek
The Polish full-back has been a constant presence on the right side of BVB’s defence. For quite some time, however, Piszczek’s influence has faded in the side. With no real right-backs available, however, Borussia Dortmund has been forced to use wingers and midfielders alike on the right flank. Jeremy Toljan is an option but Peter Bosz seems reluctant to use him.
Injury: Ruptured Knee Ligament
Expected Return Date: December 18, 2017
Erik Durm
Durm has a horrible injury record that has stopped him from achieving his full potential. The player is yet to receive a definitive recovery date. The player, however, is recovering well as far as his Instagram account suggests. Hopefully, Durm can return to full fitness and give us a glimpse of his unfulfilled promise once more.
Injury: Hip Injury
Expected Return Date: Unknown
Gonzalo Castro
The latest name in BVB’s never-ending list of injuries is Gonzalo Castro. The Spaniard injured himself against Bayer Leverkusen and information regarding his injury is yet to come out. However, we do have a diagnosis which gives us a vague estimate of nearly
Injury: Torn Ankle Ligament
Expected Return Date: Unknown
Sebastian Rode
Rode is an all-rounder in midfield who will add some freshness to BVB’s stale midfield. The same names continue to fail time and again. Rode’s energy will be a departure from the silky passing of Dahoud or Weigl but his energy and work rate can unsettle oppositions, which will certainly help.
Injury: Stress Response of the Bone
Expected Return Date: January 1, 2018
Mario Götze
The German attacking midfielder looked incredibly creative when fit. Götze has proved his return to form and it will take something special to contain him once he returns to the team.
Injury: Ruptured Ankle Ligament
Expected Return Date: January 8, 2018
Marco Reus
We all love Marco Reus but much like Erik Durm, he has spent an absurd amount of time away from the football pitch. Easily a top-5 winger at one point in time, Reus is now far behind his peers. His devastating form could have easily taken him to the top of the food-chain. While that ship has probably sailed, he can certainly make an impact when fit. He might not contribute a lot this season, but a returning Reus will certainly lift spirits.
Injury: Ruptured Cruciate Ligament
Expected Return Date: March 1, 2018

Maximilian Philipp
Injured in the opening minutes of the tie against Bayer Leverkusen, Philipp will be sorely missed. The German winger was solid every time he played and it’s a shame that he hasn’t received as much time in recent weeks. With Aubameyang returning to form, hopefully, Philipp’s injury will not do too much damage. Borussia Dortmund’s attack lacks pace and the German could spearhead it once he is fit.
Injury: Knee Injury
Expected Return Date: Unknown
Jacob Bruun Larsen
The Danish winger is yet to make his presence felt in the German top-tier. However, the 19-year-old can inject some pace into a lacklustre Dortmund and infuse it with excitement.
