Borussia Dortmund has been praised for having some of the best fans in the world.

Whether it comes to jumping and singing for the team for a full ninety minutes or travelling halfway across the world to back the Black and Yellows, the fans have always been the clubs imposing twelfth man. Dortmund has had plenty of moments in 2017 where the fans have gone above and beyond to not only becoming one of the best in the world but also the classiest.

The Yellow Wall

One of the first things that pop into someone’s mind when someone says “Borussia Dortmund” is the Yellow Wall. Europe’s largest freestanding terrace that holds 25,000 fans have been part of the clubs success. Although the stand has to have seating arrangements for Champions League games as per UEFA rules it does not stop fans from creating one of the best atmospheres in Europe. There are many moments that the fans gave us to remember ranging from breathtaking choruses to giving Monaco fans a place to stay for the night. Here are some of the moments the fans have given to football that won’t be forgotten in a long time.

The Away Day Ultras

The footballing culture in Germany would be incomplete without proper support when the teams play away games. Dortmund have always had outstanding support when playing not only teams in Germany but also in different countries. From flares to the beating of drums the fans leave an everlasting impression on the home fans especially when you have some of the loudest in the world. 2017 has been a difficult year for Borussia Dortmund but that didn’t stop the fans from travelling to England or Madrid to watch the team in action. Records may not have been set, but who really watches their team live when they’re losing?

The Classiest

One of the most memorable moments of the year for Dortmund was their kindness and hospitality that was shown towards the Monaco supporters. It was the Champions League quarter-finals which saw Dortmund play Monaco. April 11 was the scheduled date but it soon turned into one of the darkest in Dortmund’s history. At around 7:15 p.m (Dortmund Time) three explosives that were hidden in hedges detonated close to the Dortmund team bus on the way to the Westfalenstadion. There were thankfully no casualties. Centre-back Marc Bartra, however, was wounded by shards of glass to the arm. The match was postponed which meant that the Monaco fans were stranded in Dortmund without a place to stay for the night.

That is when the classiest club in the world started the #BedForAwayFans which gave many Monaco supporters a place to stay for the night. Dortmund fans graciously opened their doors for the away fans, which was a beautiful moment for not just football but also humanity. The beautiful game brought together strangers into friendships that would last a lifetime. This lovely moment was nominated for the Fifa fan award. Dortmund’s second nomination in two years.

The fans of this club are one family that back the club through the good times and the bad and will continue to do just that in the coming years.
