Peter Stoger hopes to stay at Borussia Dortmund beyond his contract
Peter Stöger has revealed that he plans to stay at Dortmund beyond the end of the season “if everything fits”. The interim coach from Koln is happy and is open to coaching the club past his contract expiry date on June 2018
Borussia Dortmund went to Stöger after their horrific spell under Peter Bosz. Stöger has brought stability but the club are still trying to get their heads above the water after sinking down in the Bundesliga. Dortmund seem to be playing well under Stöger but there is still a long way to go.
One of the biggest issues he’s has to deal with is star striker Pierre Emerick Aubameyang. The Gabonese international has been suspended three times in the last eighteen months and is currently a hot target for Arsenal. However, Stöger is confident that Aubameyang will make the right choice and stay with the club.
Peter Stöger believes that even without Aubameyang, he can still revive Dortmund and stay with them beyond his contract. This wouldn’t be a difficult task as he has already won over the fans and has a healthy relationship with the board. Contrary to Peter Bosz, Stöger is a passionate manager who addresses weaknesses and plans his game plan based on past experiences and the opposition.

Peter Stöger’s pragmatic style of play worked well with Dortmund. Despite having a naturally attacking style of play Dortmund have adapted brilliantly to the change. Even without big names such as Marcel Schmelzer and Lukasz Piszczek, there has been a considerable improvement at the back. New signing Manuel Akanji was brought in from Basel to improve the clubs defensive issues.
There are many ways the club can determine if Stöger is one for the future. One of the most important aspects is his ability to hang on to players. This has been an issue for Dortmund in the past few years. With the likes of Christian Pulisic, Jadon Sancho, and Julian Weigl the club attracts interest from all over the world.
Another aspect that determines if he is the right for the club is his use of youngsters. So far he has done that very well as we saw in the 0-0 draw against Wolfsburg. As Dortmund are investing in youth it is extremely important to develop them.
So far Peter Peter Stöger seems to be the right man for the job. But Dortmund are already trying to lure Julian Nagelsmann from Hoffenheim to replace Peter Stöger after his contract expires. It will be very interesting to see who the Borussia Dortmund boss is at the start of next season. But Stöger will do his chances no harm if he can continue to perform as well as he has so far.
