Transfer opinion: The Giroud, the BVB and the ugly
By Oliver Campo
Transfer Rumors and Aubameyang club drama have been at a high in recent days. Between it all, BVB are looking for a replacement striker. One of the most recognizable names linked with Borussia Dortmund has been Olivier Giroud.
Numerous sources are reporting Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Arsenal have agreed terms for the Gabonese international services. Some have mentioned that Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud is part of this transfer deal and others state Borussia Dortmund have contacted Giroud separately.
The good
Olivier Giroud has plenty of experience under his belt, with 4 separate top goalscorer awards as well. The 31-year-old France International has scored 7 goals this season for Arsenal. He has fallen out of favor with manager Arsene Wenger in recent months and could use more play time. Giroud has played only one full match in the Premier League this season.
Giroud is still producing goals as he enters the end part of his career. It also helps that he is not often injured and it is usually for short amounts of time. The 2017 Puskas winner would be a great asset to BVB as Dortmund continue to recover from Peter Bosz’s tenure as coach.
GiroudI’d a proven goal-scorer and the Borussia Dortmund attacking midfielders will be delighted to have him in the side.
The bad
Should Olivier Giroud join BVB, they would be getting someone who is still technically injured. Giroud suffered a hamstring injury in a match late December and hasn’t returned to active selection yet. Alexander Isak would have to lead the attack and that is not an ideal option for now.
The contract that Giroud would sign also wouldn’t be lucrative. BVB only have three players that are 30-years-old or older. Borussia Dortmund like to keep the squad young, the center forward has to accept he is a short-term solution. If lucky, the contract would be for a year and a half at best.
He can be frustrating at times too. Giroud’s lack of mobility and one dimensional game has left many Arsenal fans wanting him out.
Final thoughts
There is no ugly to this transfer if it happens. Giroud is consistently able to play and doesn’t want his chances to play taken away from him. That means he will do what he can to always be selected for the first team.

It’s a World Cup year, this would be Giroud’s last chance to play in the competition as the French international team is strong without him.
Since last year, Aubameyang has stated many times his desire to leave the club. My opinion is that Aubameyang’s drama has damaged his reputation but, never his desire to play. The way that his saga at BVB has turned out has left a sour impression on a lot of people. I would only hope that if the striker leaves, he doesn’t experience similar drama elsewhere.
As for Giroud, hopefully he can continue his superb goalscoring run and can finish the chances are creative players set up for him.
