Borussia Dortmund Player Power Rankings February 2018
By Oliver Campo
15) Mahmoud Dahoud
Mahmoud Dahoud is not starting matches for BVB often. He isn’t exactly a super-sub type of player either. He fails to get valuable minutes and it shows in his play. It looks like Dahoud is going to come up short for Borussia Dortmund when the season is over. Hopefully, he will be able to gain confidence from Stöger soon.
14) Jeremy Toljan
Jeremy Toljan has been a mixed bag so far this season. Despite some impressive performances under Peter Stoger, he puts in nightmarish displays consistently. He was arguably at fault for both of Atalanta’s goals last night, which means that Dortmund face a difficult trip to Italy next week.

13) Roman Burki
Roman Burki is likely in one of his worse spurts of form in recent memory. Perspective is key for Burki, he is currently the best option in-goal for Borussia Dortmund. The fans are not giving him any leeway either and it is probably affecting him to some degree. Burki let 42 goals in already this year; he’ll need to improve sooner than later.
12) Manuel Akanji
Dortmund’s new signing has only made one start so far and it was a promising full debut for the Swiss international. Akanji has all the attributes to become a quality modern day centre back. And Dortmund fans will be hoping to see a lot more of him as the season progresses.
11) Julian Weigl
Weigl has been consistent for BVB since Peter Bosz’ departure. Stöger is letting Weigl maintain the midfield, but Hans Joachim Watzke wants more from Weigl. Specifically, he wants Weigl to be “evil” on the field. Watzke wants Weigl to hurt other players sometimes and be far more aggressive than he currently is.
And it looks like he took those words to heart last night, putting in many aggressive challenges. He was lucky to escape a red card, but is still suspended for the second leg.
Beyond that, Weigl is always a key member of the midfield now that he is back in form.
