Analysis: It was a very important game for Dortmund as they looked to seal their spot in the Round of 16 of the Europa League. The Black and Yellows entered the fixture with a 3-2 victory from the first leg. Atalanta began confidently and found the all-important goal in the 11th minute as Rafael Toloi found the net from close range. The Serie A side was excellent in defense, negating almost all of Dortmund’s attack. But somehow Marcel Schmelzer found the winning goal on his return to send Peter Stoger’s side in the Round of 16.

Analysis: Augsburg came up against Stuttgart in the Bundesliga last weekend. The Bavarian side managed to control possession for most parts of the fixture but failed to convert them into shots. Mario Gomez’s 27th-minute strike proved to be the only goal that was enough for a Stuttgart win. Augsburg were frustrated by the opposing defense, who were very well organized for the occasion. This defeat saw Manuel Baum’s side drop down into the 10th place in the table.
Opposition star man – Caiuby
Augsburg has had a pretty average season with a very few bright spots. With Finnish striker Finnbogason out with injury, Caiuby is the player who Borussia Dortmund needs to keep an eye on. The Brazilian playmaker has been used in various different position, most seen as a left attacking midfielder. Caiuby is excellent in the air but tends to cut in with the ball regularly. If given space, he doesn’t shy away from a mean shot which could cause a havoc in the Dortmund defense. He scored last time the two sides met, and Dortmund will need to be especially careful against him.

It was a very close game when these two sides meet at the WWK Arena in September 2017. Both sides were at full strength and produced a wonderful game for the fans. Andriy Yarmolenko scored the opening goal, giving the Black and Yellows the lead in the 4th minute. Augsburg was quick to respond as Caiuby found the net with a neat header in the 11th minute.
Yarmolenko was in form and managed to pick up Kagawa at the end of the box. The Japanese International beautifully chipped the ball over the goalkeeper, making the scoreline 2-1. The game seemed to be destined for a goal-fest. But there were no goals for the rest of the game. Aubameyang had a chance to get on the scoresheet with a penalty. But he directed it into the keeper’s hand.
