By Alex Orillac
Malian defensive midfielder Diadie Samassékou is the latest youngster linked with Borussia Dortmund. The youngster played against Dortmund in the Europa League in their recent elimination against Red Bull Salzburg.
The young Diadie Samassékou has been doing wonders at Red Bull Salzburg in the Austrian first division and was even part of the team that knocked out Borussia Dortmund from the Europa League. He has been pretty consistent this season playing in 39 games this season across multiple competitions. This youngster is drawing many comparisons to Guinean midfielder Naby Keita and could end up as a steal for Borussia Dortmund if he manages to sign for us.
Who is Diadie Samassékou?
Not much is known about the early years of Diadie Samassékou, he was born on January 11, 1996, on Mali. As a youngster, he joined the JMG Football Academy in the capital city of Bamako.

At the young age of 17, he would join Malian first division side AS Real Bamako. Although unrecorded, it is believed that during his time with Real Bamako he was a full-time starter and even got to play in 4 games of the CAF Champions League which is the African equivalent of the Champions League.
During this time he caught the eye of Austrian second division team FC Liefering where he finally got to experience what was like to play in Europe. After just one season with the club, he made a move to red-hot Red Bull Salzburg in 2016 for an undisclosed fee. Currently, with just 2 seasons with the club, the Malian man has played in 77 games for them becoming an important first team player. He has also already represented Mali at the national team level playing 5 games for them debuting in 2015 while being just 18-years-old.
Should Borussia Dortmund buy him?
If you guys ask me I’d say it depends on the transfer fee. Sure, Dortmund’s midfield surely needs an upgrade, Sahin is getting pretty old and Gonzalo Castro hasn’t proven me that he deserves to start week in and week out. Yes, I know we bought Dahoud and sure we can’t panic on him yet but I believe that Diadie Samassékou will come in cheaper and could actually get the job done. I strongly believe that if this guy is given a chance at a top notch team he won’t disappoint. If the fee for this Malian beauty is less than $10 million then it’s a no-brainer move.
