Borussia Dortmund season review: Jadon Sancho lights up the stage
Not only is he one of the best talents at Borussia Dortmund. He is one of the hottest prospects in world football. Borussia Dortmund have much to look forward to after his brilliant start at the club. But how has a fared in his first season at the club and where does he go from here?
The 18-year-old is not only Borussia Dortmund’s first Englishman to represent the club. But he is also the first player born in this millennium to play for the club. He arrived from Manchester City for eight million pounds, looking for game time and he has impressed. Receiving praise from former boss Peter Stöger and fellow teammate Marco Reus. Jadon Sancho has a lot to look forward to at the club.
He made his Bundesliga debut in a 2-2 draw at Frankfurt back in October. And his career rocketed from there. He soon became a regular starter and picked up his first professional assist against Berlin at the Olympiastadion. Even though he came for first-team experience, he began to start getting proper game time in January which showed his maturity and patience.
He has various strengths, one of them is his passing. His key passing and through balls give Dortmund a good flow during the games. Rarely giving the ball away he is able to keep possession of the ball and create dangerous plays. Which brings us to his next strength. His dribbling ability is simply outstanding. He averages 36 sprints per game which is a club high and he dribbles past players as if they’re not even there.
"Maximillian Phillip described his ability on the ball with nothing but praise, “With his incredible speed and his crafty ball tricks, he has already left some opponents dizzy. His acceleration is devastating”"

Jadon Sancho doesn’t have many weaknesses but the only department he is lacking in is his defensive ability. But we cant expect him to help out defensively all the time as he provides such an attacking threat up front. He was the Bundesliga rookie of the month in January and that’s when he started getting proper game time.
His final stats at the end of the season rack up to 1 goal and 4 assists in 12 appearances in the Bundesliga. He’s already fitting in very well at the club. But we have a lot more to look forward to when we look at his performances for the England youth teams. After six goals for the U16s, Jadon Sancho then went on to score 13 goals in 16 games along with seven assists for the U17’s. His heroics sent England to the UEFA EURO 2017 which was held in Croatia. Despite England losing Sancho had won the player of the tournament award which was previously won by stars such as Rooney, Gotze, and Toni Kroos. Sancho then helped England win the U-17 World Cup in India.
Should he continue like this then Ousmane Dembele will be a thing of the past. Sancho has a good character, maturity, and work ethic which is something Dortmund need in their youth. But the biggest problem is not if he can deliver. Its if he will remain at the club for the coming years.
Jadon Sancho has not talked about any moves to other clubs. But its only a matter of time before teams show interest. We’ve had plenty of players turn their back on Dortmund after being brought up by the club. All it takes is one big team with a big money offer to make any young player hand in a transfer request.

But Jadon Sancho is not showing those types of qualities just yet. He knows its important to get game time and he has his priorities clear. If we can keep him around and develop him then we can sell him for a great price. Sancho stated that he was very happy at the club and his best is still to come.
If we’ve’ve only seen a glimpse of his talent then we are in for more electrical performance from our first ever Englishman.
