Axel Witsel, Manuel Akanji, Thorgan Hazard and Thomas Meunier all returned to training as the Borussia Dortmund players trained in Bad Ragaz one last time on Saturday before heading off to Germany for the start of the season.

With just one week to go before the start of the new season, preparations are in full swing. Borussia Dortmund cruised to a 3-0 win over Bologna FC in their final pre-season game on Friday. And the players took part in their final training session in Bad Ragaz on Saturday morning before departing for Dortmund.

Axel Witsel, Manuel Akanji, Thorgan Hazard and Thomas Meunier all took part in Saturday’s training session after returning from their post Euro 2020 breaks. New signing Donyell Malen and the fit again Marcel Schmelzer also took part in the session. While Mats Hummels (knee), Raphael Guerreiro and Emre Can (both calf), as well as the players who played against Bologna, trained individually in the athletics tent.

Marco Rose will certainly be delighted to have Axel Witsel, Manuel Akanji, Thorgan Hazard and Thomas Meunier back in training. With a number of defenders currently out injured, Akanji and Meunier could start in next weekend’s season opener. The Black and Yellows will be further boosted by the returns of Jude Bellingham and Thomas Delaney on Monday.
