Mateu Morey could make his first competitive appearance for Borussia Dortmund in more than two years on Saturday after being included in the squad to face VfL Bochum.
Borussia Dortmund are set to take on VfL Bochum on matchday two of the 2023/24 Bundesliga season. The Black and Yellows will be without Julian Ryerson on Saturday, with the Norwegian international sidelined due to an ankle injury. But Mateu Morey could be in line to make his return to competitive action after being included in the squad, according to Ruhr Nachrichten.
The Spaniard could make his first competitive appearance for the Borussia Dortmund first-team in more than two years.
Morey suffered a serious knee injury during BVB’s DFB-Pokal tie against Holstein Kiel in May 2021, and was forced to miss the entire 2021/22 season as a result. He then had to undergo another knee surgery, and was sidelined for the 2022/23 season as well.
The 23 year old did play in two games during pre-season, but suffered another setback as he was forced to miss the club’s US Tour due to muscular problems. But he now appears to be fully fit again and could make his return to competitive action this weekend.
Mateu Morey has been forced to deal a number of injury problems over the years, and has been limited to just 29 competitive appearances for the BVB first-team. The hope will be that he can steer clear of injuries for an extended period and finally kick-start his professional career that showed so much promise when he first broke onto the scene.
