Borussia Dortmund will face Arsenal at the Emirates Cup 2026 on Sunday, 9 August after confirming their participation in the annual pre-season game at the Emirates Stadium.
The Gunners, who won the Premier League title last season after 22 years, welcome the side to north London as part of their preparations for the 2026-27 campaign.
It's also a good opportunity for Dortmund to get some momentum under their belt before their season-opener against Bayern Munich in the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup on 22 August.
Arsenal confirmed the news on their official website on Friday, 26 June. The club's Chief Executive Officer Richard Garlick put out a statement saying that he anticipates a 'highly competitive match' between them:
""We’re delighted to host the Emirates Cup once again and welcome our supporters back home to Emirates Stadium as we continue our preparations for the season ahead. Emirates has been proud partner of the Emirates Cup since 2007, and we’re grateful for their continued commitment and long-standing support, which now spans 20 years.""he said.
Speaking on hosting Die Borussen at the iconic Emirates, he added that:
"“This summer will be no different as we look forward to welcoming Borussia Dortmund to Emirates Stadium, which will provide a highly competitive match as we put focus on continued growth and sustained success into next season and beyond.""Garlick further said.
The Emirates Cup began in 2007 and this will be the 15th edition of it. Until 2017, three teams were invited alongside hosts Arsenal. But the last five editions have seen the Gunners take on just one opposition.
Borussia Dortmund also become just the fourth side to participate in the Emirates Cup: Hamburger SV were the first in 2008 while also winning the cup before VfL Wolfsburg (2015) and RB Leipzig (2017) also played, with both finishing third.
Arsenal are no strangers to Dortmund though, with the teams locking horns eight times in the UEFA Champions League that has yielded three wins for the BVB and four for the Gunners. The sides might as well come up against each other in the competition next season, with Arsenal qualifying as the Premier League champions and Dortmund sealing their place as Bundesliga runners-up.
Besides the Emirates Cup, the Black and Yellows are also scheduled to play AS Roma on 15 August. Their pre-season officially kicks off on 18 July, just a day before the 2026 FIFA World Cup finals against Rot-Weiß Oberhausen before flying to Japan where they are scheduled to play Cerezo Osaka on 29 July and then FC Tokyo on 1 August.
