Borussia Dortmund saw off Arsenal 3-2 in the Emirates Cup on Sunday as Gabriel Martinelli's stoppage-time equalizer for the Premier League champions was ruled out for offside.

The Gunners avenged the loss in penalty shootouts though, prevailing 5-4 after Mathis Albert's attempt was saved by Illan Meslier.

It took only seven minutes for Dortmund to snatch the lead as Samuele Inacio produced a lovely finish from a well-worked team-move on the right.

Debutant Konstantinos Karetsas, unveiled as BVB's newest player as recently as Monday, doubled their advantage with a fabulous strike after carrying the ball from the halfway line.

Ethan Nwaneri pulled one back for the hosts just nine minutes into the second stanza but Joane Gadou restored Dortmund's two-goal advantage after Arsenal failed to clear a corner.

The Londoners were handed another chance to score from the penalty spot after Kaua Prates brought down Christos Tzolis inside the box and Viktor Gyokeres made no mistake from 12 yards.

Gabriel Martinelli appeared to had made it 3-3 in stoppage-time but the referee controversially ruled it out for offside as Dortmund won the match in normal time.

Borussia Dortmund play their last preseason game of the summer against Serie A giants AS Roma at the Signal Iduna Park on Saturday, 15 August. Their 2026-27 season officially begins with the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup against Bayern Munich a week later, also in Dortmund.
