Borussia Dortmund continue their preseason campaign against Premier League champions Arsenal at the Emirates in London tomorrow as the Bundesliga giants indulge in their fifth friendly game of the summer.
Niko Kovac's side returned from Japan last weekend after beating FC Tokyo 1-0 as Fabio Silva's second-half strike brought them back to winning ways after two consecutive losses and will be looking to build on it tomorrow with another scalp.
However, there's been some worrying team news.
Anton, Kobel and Ryerson out
According to latest reports, Waldemar Anton, Gregor Kobel and Julian Ryerson will miss the clash to Arsenal tomorrow. Anton, who featured in their last game against Tokyo, is confirmed to be absent from the Emirates Cup encounter on Sunday due to training management.
As for Kobel and Ryerson, they were the last two Dortmund stars to report back to work after joining the squad on Thursday following an extended break. Both players reached the quarter-finals of the 2026 FIFA World Cup with Switzerland and Norway respectively and were hance allowed to rest for a bit longer than other national team players.
But despite reporting back to work, tomorrow's game is a bit too soon for them as Kobel and Ryerson have only just resumed training and would need some time to blow away the cobwebs. The first-team stars could make their first appearance of the preseason against AS Roma on 15 August.
Prates in line for debut
For the first time since joining Borussia Dortmund this summer, Kaua Prates will feature in the matchday squad. The Brazilian was among the first players signed by the club this year and while his fellow arrivals Justin Lerma and Joane Gadou have already made their debuts, Prates had to wait for his due to a thigh muscle injury he'd been nursing.
Having now attained match fitness, the 17-year-old teenager has been called up to the squad by Kovac, who may as well hand him his much-awaited debut tomorrow. But it's unlikely that he'd start with Daniel Svensson back in the fold and may have to wait until second half to come off the bench.
Ramaj continues individual training
Dortmund's reserve goalkeeper Diant Ramaj will continue his training individually as he's touted to leave the club this summer with the BVB also allowing him to negotiate with other clubs. Ramaj hasn't played a game for them during the preseason yet, even missing their tour of Japan last week.
