Borussia Dortmund play Union Berlin on Saturday in the Bundesliga upon returning from their unsuccessful trip to London in midweek.
Der BVB saw their long unbeaten run end following a shock 2-0 loss to a struggling Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League.
Cristian Romero and Dominic Solanke struck apiece for the hosts, while the visitors were also reduced 10-man in the first half after Daniel Svensson saw red.
Ahead of their final fixture of the league phase against Inter Milan, Dortmund have a tricky top-flight match to negotiate with, against Union Berlin.
Going by stats, the Iron Ones haven't really pulled up any trees in the Bundesliga this season, winning, drawing and losing six times each to languish in ninth place of the league standings with 24 points from 18 games.
But the side has shown a tendency to punch above their weight in the big games, having beaten Stuttgart, Eintracht Frankfurt, Borussia Monchengladbach and RB Leipzig, while also holding Bayern Munich to a 2-2 draw.
Dortmund have struggled away to Berlin
Borussia Dortmund have a good record to Union Berlin, winning 11 of their 15 meetings with the side in all competitions, and losing four - all coming away from home!
In their first ever Bundesliga clash in August 2019, Union Berlin beat Dortmund 3-1 before another 2-1 victory at home the following season.
Two years later, the BVB suffered another 2-0 loss on the road to Berlin, while their last visit to Stadion An der Alten Försterei in October 2024 also resulted in a 2-1 defeat.
First to score, wins!
Interestingly, the first team to score in this fixture has always - ALWAYS - ended up winning the clash, although it's worth mentioning that Berlin haven't even scored in their last two clashes with Dortmund, losing 6-0 and 3-0.
But at home, the Iron Ones have ruffled a few feathers in the past, winning four of the six occasions that they have hosted the side. In three of those matches, Berlin struck at least once in the opening stanza.
No Bundesliga stalemates
Another interesting fact to note is that Borussia Dortmund and Union Berlin have never played out a draw in the Bundesliga before. All 13 league meetings between them so far has produced a winner.
The only time they actually drew a match was in their very first encounter back in October 2016 when the rivals met in the DFB Pokal. The game ended 1-1 but Dortmund then prevailed 4-3 on penalties.
Now, both the teams come into the fixture boasting a lengthy unbeaten run, with Berlin going their last five top-flight matches without a loss and Dortmund in their last 11.
Since there has never been a stalemate in any league meetings between them before, one of these sides could see their undefeated streak end here.
