Borussia Dortmund and Mainz face-off on Friday in a rollicking affair between two attacking sides under the Friday night lights of the iconic Signal Iduna Park.
Coming into the clash on the back of five consecutive wins, Der BVB are looking to remain the coattails of leaders Bayern Munich as the title race enters it home stretch.
Meanwhile, Mainz have breathed new life into their campaign under Urs Fischer, winning four of their last five Bundesliga matches, including their last three.
The clash also sets up an enticing showdown between two talented strikers, Serhou Guirassy and Nadiem Amiri, both of whom will be hungry for goals.
Guirassy has become Dortmund's talisman again
Following an explosive debut campaign with Dortmund that saw him score 38 goals in 50 games, Serhou Guirassy appeared to continue that form this season when he struck in their opening four clashes.
But soon enough, his form fizzled out and his goals got dry. The Guinean international only scored sporadically even as Dortmund continued to pick up results. But lately, Guirassy has demonstrated shades of his former, talismanic self.
In their last two matches, he has come up with the winner: netting twice against Heidenheim to help Dortmund win 3-2 before firing an 87th-minute goal against Wolfsburg to hand his side a late 2-1 victory.
The 29-year-old hasn't scored in three consecutive games since netting four in a row between August-September 2025, but Mainz's leaky defense may give him some hope as the forward will be looking to feast on their sloppy backline.
Mainz will bank on Amiri
Mainz have their own talisman upfront in Nadiem Amiri, the German international who is currently breathing fire. He has struck in his last five Bundesliga appearances, including a match-winning brace against Augsburg in their last game.
Amiri has already bagged more top-flight goals than what he managed in the whole of last season (7), a testament to his growing influence on the side and a meteoric rise in the Bundesliga.
By contrast, the 29-year-old had a rather somber beginning to the season, netting only thrice from their opening 10 league matches, but Fischer has managed to get the best out of him too.
He also leads Mainz for the number of shots taken (39) and chances created (38) as well as distance covered (180.8 kms) which reflects his exemplary work-ethic even as a striker.
When Serhou Guirassy and Nadiem Amiri take to the field on Friday, one can expect sparks to fly.
