Arsenal legend Thierry Henry lavished praise on Serhou Guirassy for his match-winning brace against Sabah FK in the Champions League on Tuesday.
The Guinea scored both their goals in a narrow 2-1 victory at the Baku Olympic Stadium as the BVB shrugged off their recent struggles and returned to winning ways after four games.
Henry, now an acclaimed TV pundit, felt the striker deserves more appreciation than what he gets whilst also adding that Dortmund would be in a much worse position without him.
"Watching Guirassy in action makes it hard to understand why he still flies under the radar. In my view, he’s an elite striker who remains underappreciated.
It’s difficult to picture Dortmund in the same position without him. "
Guirassy opened the scoring for Dortmund in the 10th minute by latching onto a rebound after Felix Nmecha's shot was spilled by Sabah goalkeeper Stas Pokatilov.
The Owls drew level almost half an hour later when Aden McCarthy headed in from a lovely free-kick by Tymoteuz Puchacz, but Guirassy restored BVB's advantage after the break.
Joey Veerman sent in an inviting cross inside the box which the 30-year-old chipped over Pokatilov for 2-1, eventually winning the contest for Dortmund.
It was his second Champions League brace of the season already, having also netted twice against Villarreal on matchday one while talking his tally for the second to six goals now.
Henry spoke of Guirassy's ability to deliver on the biggest stages, whether it's the league or Europe.
"He consistently finds the net, decides big matches, and is proving he can perform at the highest level in both the Champions League and the Bundesliga."
Given the striker's prolific ability to score goals, Henry also mused if Guirassy should be plying his trade for bigger sides that win trophies.
"His brace tonight was yet another display of his class. I’m not downplaying Dortmund, they’re a major club but Guirassy clearly has the quality to operate on an even bigger stage. It raises the question of whether he should be at one of the world’s absolute elite clubs. A forward who keeps putting up numbers like his belongs in the conversation for the biggest trophies."
Since joining from VfB Stuttgart in 2024, Guirassy has scored 66 goals and made 17 assists from 106 games in all competitions for Dortmund, emerging as the focal point of their attacking vanguard.
Borussia Dortmund next play Eintracht Frankfurt in the Bundesliga on Saturday.
