The race to sign Niclas Füllkrug is heating up, with Atletico Madrid the latest team to be linked with a move for the Borussia Dortmund striker.
Borussia Dortmund’s signing of Serhou Guirassy has opened up the possibility of Niclas Füllkrug leaving the club this summer despite a strong debut season at the Westfalenstadion. The BVB bosses have made it clear that they would like to keep the Germany international at the club. But it remains to be seen what Füllkrug’s plans are for his future.
There is no shortage of interest in Füllkrug, who also showcased his qualities at the European Championship earlier this summer. AC Milan have been heavily linked with a move for the 31 year old in recent weeks. And now it appears that Atletico Madrid have joined the race for his signature.

According to Diario AS, the Spanish giants have Füllkrug on their radar as they look to replace Alvaro Morata, who recently completed his transfer to AC Milan. The report claims that Füllkrug is not happy with Borussia Dortmund’s decision to sign Guirassy. He still has two years left on his current contract, but a transfer away from BVB could be in the offing this summer.
Füllkrug’s physicality and throwback playing style would make him well suited to Atletico Madrid. The striker played a key role in helping Borussia Dortmund eliminate Diego Simeone’s side in the quarterfinals of the UEFA Champions League.
He scored a total of 16 goals and assisted a further ten in 46 appearances across all competitions for the Black and Yellows after joining from Werder Bremen last summer.
