Borussia Dortmund give Gio Reyna injury update
By Tushar Bahl
Borussia Dortmund head coach Nuri Sahin expects Gio Reyna to be sidelined for a few weeks after sustaining a groin injury while on international duty.
Gio Reyna suffered another injury blow last week as he was forced to drop out of the United States roster after being diagnosed with a left groin strain. The 21 year old is now back at Borussia Dortmund, and will be forced to spend some time on the sidelines.
Nuri Sahin on Gio Reyna's injury setback
While it is currently unclear exactly how long Reyna will be sidelined for, Nuri Sahin is expecting his injury to take "a few weeks" to heal. But the BVB head coach is also backing the attacking midfielder to continue his progress when he returns to action.
"He came back and was very sad. He also sensed that he was getting closer and closer [to getting his chance]. I told him that we will be waiting for him. Unfortunately, it will take a few weeks. And after that, hopefully he can continue on this positive path."
Reyna endured a difficult year last season as he struggled for playing time at Borussia Dortmund, and his loan spell at Nottingham Forest also did not go according to plan. It was reported that he could leave BVB this summer. But a transfer did not materialise in the end.
Borussia Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl said recently that Reyna could establish himself as a crucial player for the team. The USMNT international has made one substitute apppearance for BVB so far this season.
After his latest injury setback, Gio Reyna will be keen to get back to full fitness quickly and force his way into the Borussia Dortmund starting XI.
