Borussia Dortmund target Ian Maatsen completes Aston Villa transfer

Borussia Dortmund have officially missed out on the permanent transfer of Ian Maatsen, with the left-back joining Aston Villa on a six year contract.
Ian Maatsen has completed his move to Aston Villa, joining the English Premier League side on a deal worth around 44 million euros. Borussia Dortmund were also interested in signing the Dutchman on a permanent transfer from Chelsea following his impressive loan spell at the club. But they weren’t willing to pay more than 30 million euros, and Aston Villa came up trump in the end.
Maatsen has put pen to paper on a contract until June 2030, and will play UEFA Champions League football with Aston Villa next season.
The 22 year old showcased his quality as one of the world’s most promising young left-backs during the second half of the recently concluded season at Borussia Dortmund. He played a key role in BVB’s run to the Champions League final, and also came up with vital attacking contributions in the Bundesliga. Maatsen made a total of 23 appearances for the Black and Yellows, scoring three goals and assisting a further two.
With Maatsen moving to Aston Villa, Borussia Dortmund are considering potential alternatives as they look to bring in reinforcements at the left-back spot. Ferdi Kadıoğlu is said to be the Black and Yellows’ top target, and a move for the Turkey international will likely cost around 25-30 million euros.
Ramy Bensebaini is another option in the Borussia Dortmund squad available to Nuri Sahin, while the highly rated Tom Rothe will return to the club this summer following a successful loan spell with Holstein Kiel.
